Manila, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte calls out the social media giant, Facebook on Monday night after more than 100 accounts removed due to violation of currently spam and authenticity policies of the company.

 

In pre-recorded address aired on state-run broadcaster, PTV-4 – Duterte asks Facebook what are their intention of the tech giant to operate in the Philippines if it cannot help the government’s advocacies.

 

“Facebook, listen to me. We allow you to operate here, hoping that you can help us also,” he said.

 

Some of the removed accounts are “advocacy” pages who help the government for the welfare of the public.

 

“Now if government cannot espouse or advocate something which is for the good of the people, then what is your purpose here in my country?" He added.

 

Duterte – a city mayor in country’s southern part, Davao before won in 2016 Presidential Elections due to popularity on social media – wants to talk with Facebook management if they will not cooperating to the government’s agenda.

 

According to the President, nobody can dictate the government on what shall do or not.

 

“Ito na lang (Just give me this) – tell me kung bakit hindi ko magamit para sa kapakanan ng taumbayan (why I cannot use Facebook for the welfare of my people). If the government cannot use it for the good of the people, then we have to talk. We have to talk sense,” he said during the public address.

 

The company announced that it removed China and Philippines networks after they learned that those accounts used to spread misinformation to public about variety of subject including nation’s politics.

 

Facebook said that Philippine network was linked to police and military but as of now, three soldiers were reported who managed the propaganda campaign of the authorities against active communists group.

 

In the interview with ABS-CBN News, Major General Edgard Arevalo, spokesperson of country’s military said – the intention of using the social media is for public welfare and will to end the terrorist groups in the country.
